Concerns Commonly Shared by Seniors

I'll lose my independence if I move to a retirement community.

Senior living residences, and more specifically Continuing Care Retirement Communities (CCRCs), offer a variety of living and care options that can be customized to accommodate your lifestyle and changing health needs. Peace Village is organized to let you live as independently as you want and still receive any assistance you request, from helping you get through daily tasks to just keeping you up-to-date on the activities happening around your community. We value your independence as much as you do.

It will be hard to make friends and I won’t be able to do what I love to do.

We provide a lively spirit of community and unlimited opportunities to develop lasting friendships. A full calendar of optional social events and educational classes will give you plenty of opportunities to get to know your neighbors. In fact, most residents discover very quickly that many others share their interests, hobbies and passions. If there's an activity you enjoy that we don't offer, let us know... there's always room for improvement!

Medicare or Medicaid will cover my living expenses.

Neither Medicare nor Medicaid cover the costs of living in an Assisted Living residence. They do, however, cover care expenses at skilled nursing facilities. There are some government-sponsored programs, however, such as Veteran's Aid & Attendance, that can offer financial assistance.

I’m just too young to move to a retirement community.

While it might seem like you’re not ready for retirement community living, benefits such as increased security, unlimited access to social events, and educational activities and personal assistance simply are not available when you're still maintaining your own home. Residences at Peace Village are available to anyone 62 years of age and older and "I only wish I had come to Peace Village sooner" is the expression we hear most often.
